I got my new mog last week. First Rock Crawler and the first time building a kit.

So far having fun and I am up to needing a servo.

What do you guys recommend? Also what radio and reciever can I use?

I will post pics soon as its finished.

thats the best thing about getting a kit, having the fun building it :)

Servo really depends on your price range?

- for around $40-$60 you can get the Hitec 645, good servo and decent strength

- step up around the $70-$90 you could go the Hitec 965 Carbonite gear. Ultra speed and great torque

- If budget is not an option, go straight for the Hitec TG 7955. 24gk's of torque will get you turning. These go around here for around $150

Speak to your LHS and have a look at their Hitec catalogue. Theyre are a heap of Hitec servo's i missed based around the 18gk mark that should be around $120 or so. You are after Metal Gear at a least, Titanium Gear if possible. the 645 starts at around 8kg rated but they are very reliable and have been used on car's with alot bigger tyres then yours before :) Ultra speed isnt really needed unless thats what you want

cheers
John

If u already have other RC cars just gt another receiver 2 match the transmitter u use. The Futaba 2PL is a good radio u can use or gt a 2.4Ghz radio, again yr LHS will be able 2 point u in the right direction.

Its all done now and I have been having fun driving it. Have not locked the diffs yet until I get stronger driveshafts.

It goes a lot faster than I thought it would, may need a smaller pinion.

And now my new project. Unlike most of you guys I have not done anything to the chassis. Instead I am making a new body.

Its a 1:8 scale Land Rover Series 1 Tuff Truck.

Started from drawings in a workshop manual and slowly made it to its current stage.

The weather turned out pretty good today so I put off making the soft top and painted the body.

It looked good sitting there so I quickly did the windows and went for a drive:D

Got some new bling wheels and tyres off a Slash 4x4.

Not much good for crawling, but they look tough.
