Adding weight to wheels - how to
A basic run down on fitting up crawler tyres to beadlocks while adding a little weight.
1. Get your hands on some lead stick on weights. Keep in mind that some wheel stores now use lead replacement which is not as dense as lead, therefore is far more bulky. Therefore lead is the best option.
(safety note, you should wear gloves when handling lead
2. Most beadlocks have a recess along the centre line that is narrower than the weight strips. Use some tin snips or side cutters to trim down the lead strip so that the strip fits in the recess

Re: Adding weight to wheels - how to
3. Add your weight as required. In this case there's 210 or so grams in each front and 75 in each rear. The weight strips can be layered if required. I can't see it makes a huge difference but I always try to get things fairly cemetrical for balance.
4. Fit your foams inside the tyres. These are two stage foams so they do move a little when you're fitting them up. I found that by crushing the tyre in a few directions the tyre and foam settled out relatively evenly.
5. Fit up your tyres on the wheel. I usually do the outside bead first followed by the inside.
6. Using a paint pen or marker label the inside of the wheel with the amount of weight you've added. This makes tuning a little easier after you've forgotten how much weight you added.

I have used lead flashing (the type roof plumbers use) this type is very easy to cut is only a few mm thick. I cut a strip the width of the centre of the rim, length to suit because of the thickness if more is needed just add another layer.

That is plenty of lead for a few trucks

 Wheel Weights
Hey guys. Just got some of those stick on flat wheel weights. About 4 strips. Anyway just wondered if the best place to stick them is on the inside of the inner side of the wheel rim, like where they go on a real car tyre. Or should I take the tyres off and stick them under the foams on the outside of the wheel rim it self? I hope I am making sense LOL Also, is the double sided sticky that comes on the weights strong enough? Or should I use something extra? Cheers Benny

 Re: Wheel Weights
I removed my tyres and foams then placed them in the groove evenly with the doublesided tape thats on the weights then ran electrical tape around the whole lot to secure them in place seems to work fine like that.

 Re: Wheel Weights
Thanks guys, really appreciate the advice! I will run some electrical tape around as suggested. Thanks SierraJim, I should have done a search, was too lazy

Re: Adding weight to wheels - how to
Ok I added the weights tonight as per your suggestions. I also did the electrical tape around to ensure they are secure. Had a short test out the back on my mini rock pile. And I could really tell the difference! I was able to climb a couple of lines that were before not possible. It seems to give my rig more pulling power up steeper slopes, which i guess is the whole point lol Cheers Benny
